On February 27 this year, I wrote a posting with the heading: Obama for Malaysia? My write-up was based on a cartoon by famous Malaysian cartoonist Lat which appeared on the front page of New Straits Times, one of the nation's English tabloid dailies. The cartoon was published soon after Nomination Day for Malaysia's 12th General Election held on March 8. For further infor, please refer to my posting "Obama for Malaysia?" dated Feb 27, 2008. The said cartoon is also reproduced above for easy reference for those too lazy to search my Blog Archives.
A few hours ago, I received from The Star's (another Malaysian English tabloid daily) sms news alert, as follows: Barack Obama wins Democratic party presidential nomination race, US media say, creating history as first Black American to run for Oval Office.
Yes, Long Live Obama!, or Hidup Obama! as stated in Lat's cartoon.
Congratulations, Mr Obama. We (or at least my family and me) over here in this part of the world (Asia) are proud of you. Proudest would of course be your former classmates in Indonesia.
Even if you do not win the presidential race eventually, it is still already quite an achievement; for you are, as The Star said, "the first Black American to run for Oval Office."
But we are sure you will win, barring any dirty tricks from your opponent.
So, congratulations in advance. Hidup Obama!
